Parent Carer Wellbeing: Survive and thrive summer holiday guide
The pressure is building as we move towards the summer holidays. For some parent carers, though, the holiday may feel more like a 4th lockdown.
Where support is reduced and we become, once again, a teacher (of life skills), physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, entertainer and anxiety-and-anger-regulator.
Rather than let this fill you with dread (hard to avoid I know) try to explore if there are ways in which you can meet your own needs as well as your child’s.
In a weekly blog each Sunday over the summer I’ll be sharing tips and strategies to look after your own wellbeing, based on other parent carers’ lived experience.
This will include advice on what to do to help you survive (and even enjoy) the summer holiday.
Although what supports your wellbeing is personal to you, hopefully each week there will be something for everyone in there. Even if it’s trying something new or taking a different perspective on things.
The most important thing though for ALL parent carers is to remember that your own wellbeing is important and worthy of being considered. The family is a system and every part of the system needs to be considered and nurtured.
That includes you.
