No, we only signpost to organisations and practitioners who provide emotional support for parent carers. If you have any queries about the services you will need to contact those listed directly.

What is a parent carer?

A parent carer is a parent (or anyone with parental responsibilities) who provides care for a disabled child. The term ‘carer’ signifies that often such parents perform caring tasks that go beyond what a parent would typically do for a child of a similar age.

As a parent carer it is important to connect with your local health, education and social care services.  Information can usually be found via your General Practitioner as well as on the Local Offer of your local authority.

Affinityhub.uk signposts to emotional support for parent carers as often it can be difficult to find specific support for parents. However, the private therapists, counsellors and psychologists listed on this site will mainly charge for their services.

The words used around disability and special educational needs can be complicated. There are different views on what is preferred, which may vary from individual to individual as well as the context. There are also legal and medical uses which at times may seem outdated.
